January 2020 ~ NOURISHMENT

With my sights on a new year and decade, I decided to find a word each month which will anchor the key intentions and focus for my life. NOURISHMENT is the word that I selected for the month of January with many of my mini goals for the month needing just that. Initially, I wanted to nourish myself with love and self care after the pace & indulgences of the holidays but the intention expanded beyond the basics (such as drinking 64 ounces of water daily) to a broader application across so many areas of my life. Nourishment is the life force we take in not only through our mouths in the form of clean healthy food and water but also through our senses, our intellect and our engagement with those around us.

How I am Nourishing myself this month:

  • 64 ounces of water daily

  • Water therapy (bath or jacuzzi) - I even filled my bathtub with fuchsia rose petals one evening

  • Fresh whole foods

  • Green juices

  • PJs when I return home in the afternoon

  • Slower walks in Nature

  • Soulful reading in bed each morning for an hour

  • Zen music

  • Painting

  • Rest and sleep and rest and sleep

  • Naps

  • Stretching/yoga poses

  • Daily Meditation practice

  • Candles & fresh flowers daily

Some of these practices are new and unpracticed for me (not being one to slow down very often) and may even seem a bit indulgent, but I am learning that they really are not. They are in fact, essential when life is throwing so much at us. Earlier this month my father fell and hit his head in a parking lot at night. He was unconscious and by himself. Some kind loving soul found him and called 9-1-1. It was a harrowing three days in the hospital that followed, but each night I returned home and practiced loving nourishment and restoration of my body, mind and spirit and guess what, it truly helped me be there for him as the best version of myself.

My word has taken me on quite an adventure this month as I have explored how many elements of my life need to be nourished. I noticed the word popping up everywhere, including a magazine entitled NOURISH AND FLOURISH on a newsstand in the grocery store. Huh! Who knew there was a NOURISH magazine and of course I felt compelled to buy it and take it home. The photography and articles spoke to my heart in so many ways.

How are you nourishing yourself?

What is your WORD?
