World Elder Abuse Awareness Day - June 15th

Happy Friday!

I am compelled to share this information to create broader awareness of elder abuse which is significantly on the rise.  Recently, a family member of mine was victimized by an online scam which resulted in weeks of remediation and administrative changes.  Luckily, we intervened at just the right time to avoid an unrecoverable loss.  Please share this information and make sure your loved ones are in the know about these types of situations, including ways to protect themselves.

June 15 is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. Knowing the warning signs is important, whether it's happening to someone you care for, a friend, or you. To spot financial elder abuse, look for sudden changes like:

•Suspicious changes in wills or Power of Attorney

•Bills not being paid

•Unusual withdrawal patterns

•Excessive “voluntary” payments for care and companionship

•Unusual purchases

Elder Abuse Statistics from the National Council on Aging:

•1 in 10 Americans over age 60 are taken advantage of

•Only 1 in 14 cases are reported

•60% of perpetrators are family members
